Mannheim

Next to the Baroque palace, Mannheim's landmark is the water tower on Friedrichsplatz. It marks the centre of one of the largest Art Nouveau sites in Europe. Unique is the chessboard-like layout of the city centre, the "squares", and the designation of the streets with capital letters and numbers - a concept that was taken up in Manhattan. Modern Mannheim is considered an art and shopping city in the region.
